Getting your tires back to the correct pressure is only half the battle. How to do it:

  1. Verify all four tires are inflated to the exact PSI listed on your driver's side door jamb.

  2. Start the vehicle and drive continuously at a highway speed (usually between 50 mph and 60 mph) for at least 10 to 20 minutes.

  3. The system will automatically recognize the new pressures or sensor locations and turn off the warning light.

  5. Move to the rear-right tire and repeat.

  6. Finish at the rear-left tire and repeat. The horn should chirp twice after this final tire, signaling the sequence is complete.

Why Won't My TPMS Light Turn Off?

If you have completed the correct reset procedure for your vehicle and the light remains illuminated, you are likely dealing with an underlying issue that a simple reset cannot fix.

The most common culprit is a dead battery inside one of the wheel sensors, which requires a complete physical replacement of the unit. You should also check the pressure of your spare tire, as many full-size spares contain a hidden TPMS sensor that will trigger the dash light if it loses air in the trunk. Finally, ensure your tire pressure gauge is properly calibrated; if you set your tires to 30 PSI but your gauge is reading 5 PSI too high, your tires are actually at a dangerously low 25 PSI, and the system is rightfully refusing to turn off the warning light.
